Basque Dub Foundation
BDF - Basque Dub Foundation started a decade ago as a studio project by Iñaki Yarritu, a London based producer/musician originally from the Basque Country (northern Spain). Their debut album "Sustraidun Roots Dub" (Massive Sounds, 1997) made them acquire an international underground reputation for its blend of original 70's Dub style with 90's digital influences.
Since then BDF has evolved into a multinational band specializing in old school Roots Reggae and Dub, with an awesome reputation as a live band. Their live shows reverberate with the unique feel of the golden era of the 70's and 80's, before the digital technology would take Reggae music into a different phase.
In 2002 BDF released their second album "BDF meets Loud & Lone" in collaboration with Loud & Lone, one of the best new Roots Reggae outfits to come out of Europe (Spain) in recent times. BDF provides the ultra heavy riddims and Loud & Lone are in charge of the vocals "inna Showcase Style" (vocal plus dub).
"BDF Meets Loud & Lone" recreates with amazing precision the genuine and atmospheric sounds of Roots Reggae's golden era. This is the music created by a new generation of devoted Reggae fans whose only intention is to play the music they love in the same style as the artists that have influence them so much.
"BDF Meets Loud & Lone" is closer to that late 70's-early 80's Reggae vibe than almost anything recorded in the last 10 years. Quite an achievement considering it was recorded in Spain, mostly by young local Reggae musicians, who not only can produce an authentic Roots sound, they can also play it live. Having already supported many Reggae legends such as Burning spear, The Wailers, Culture, and Luciano. BDF have an underground fan base in their own country but with this new album they have a strong chance of creating an international following between the most discerning Roots Reggae audience (the same people who follows labels like Blood & Fire, Pressure Sounds, and Heartbeat).
2003 has been so far a very busy year for BDF, playing live in France and Spain (supporting artists like Lee Perry, Culture, Michael Prophet...) and playing as a Backing Band for international Reggae artists (such as Earl Sixteen, African Simba ) and recording and building rhythms for upcoming Heartical releases too. Classic artists and also new vocalists such as Luciano, Sugar Minnot, Mikal Rose, Al Campbell, Wayne Smith, Hopeton James, Chronicle, Eddy Fitzroy, Pinchers and French artists Uman, Little Danny and Difanga.
