Wayne Smith

Wayne Smith

Most people identify Wayne Smith with the digital super hit of 1984 "Under me Sleng teng" and the LP produced by King Jammy's. In fact, Wayne Smith career started long before the digital riddim explosion in Jamaica, in the late 70s he even already recorded with the then only "Prince" Jammy's underground hits like "Life is moment" or "Ain't no me without u" most of them compiled in two hard to find Lps "Youthmn Skanking" and "Smoker Super". But it was the riddim he composed on a small digital Casio keyboard helped by Noël Davey that really brought him to fame. It took him 2 months to convince Jammy's to release the "Sleng teng" and it was only after the latter played it in a sound clash against Scorpio. Jammy's saw the incredible reaction and quickly released the riddim getting soon crowned King. Wayne Smith tune was the biggest hit on the riddim and it is still a dancehall must for any session. Since that time, Wayne kept on recording for many other producers including Steely & Cleevie or Ranking Joe's label since he settled in New York. Wayne is a gifted singer and musician. He has his own "Sleng Teng Rcds" label. During his first visit to France in 2004 he recorded for our label, Heartical recording artist now!
